"I knew that I had come face to face with someone whose mere personality was so fascinating that, if I allowed it to do so, it would absorb my whole nature, my whole soul, my very art itself."

—Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

And in my case, it was game over for me a long time ago. Not quite yet face-to-face but no matter, it didn't need to be so because it was as good as done. That's what you did to me but you already know that. bay.

  • The Capital Grille

A few months back I made reservations for two during restaurant week. We were both looking forward to the meal at The Capital Grille since we both have not been to their establishment. We tried to make the effort of going out and trying a new restaurant once a month or every other month, but we've kind of fallen off the wagon with this winter being so cold and long. It was really nice to be able to catch up outside of work, have a glass of wine, enjoying delicious food and being in the presence of good company. It was exactly that.

While we looked over the menu and what was offered, we both noted on how the atmosphere of the restaurant is dark and pretty laid back. The interior decor is masculine, we felt like we were in a men's club from the 50's.

Our basket of assorted breads arrived after we received our drinks. Following the recommendation of our server, we both decided to get our steaks with the porcini rubbed and 12 year aged balsamic. She opted for the filet mignon while I went for the 14oz bone-in dry aged sirloin.

I decided to try the Clam Chowder though I didn't have very high expectation since I've almost always been disappointed in the past at every restaurant I've been to, saved my one and only time I made it at home following the recipe from my friend Michael Chow from thousanthdish. It was the best clam chowder I've ever had.

My friend Theresa ordered the Field Greens, Seasonal Vegetables with Shallot Champagne Vinaigrette, I tried a bit of her salad and thought it was really light and refreshing.

We had the Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans as our side, and awhile I have no complaints, I did wished I asked for the truffled fries instead.

Theresa ordered her Filet Mignon medium-well. While I don't really care how she like her steak done or how eats her steak, but I think that to cook any steak more than medium is ruining it. To cook a perfectly good piece of steak to death is an injustice.

I ordered my Bone-In Porcini Rubbed Sirloin medium-rare and it was perfect.

My steak was so tender and juicy. There was so much flavor. The aged balsamic cuts out some of the richness of the sirloin but also bring out the sweetness flavor in it. I loved my steak that night.

My friend decided on the Crème Brûlée and said it was pretty good, I didn't try any since I've never liked crème brûlée.

I went for the Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake, it was something I'd normally would go for as far as desserts goes. It was rich, dark, velvety, and decadent.

We had a fabulous dinner here and the steaks we had were amazing. We had such a good time here that I've already made another reservation for us to return here in the next couple of months. The food was great, service was superb, but most importantly the company was what made the dinner special. I look forward to our next outing.

  • Sunday Lunch With Mom

Mom and I made plans to go to United Noodles for lunch last Sunday. United Noodles is an Asian grocery store with a deli area where food orders can be taken in a cafeteria style setting called UniDeli. The grocery store has a good selection of Asian groceries, including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Filipino, Vietnamese, and Indian. Prices are higher and overpriced than other places and they often have a lot of expired/spoiled goods. We were there just to eat in the deli so we didn't bother buying any produce.

Mom ordered the Pork and Preserved Vegetable Noodle soup $7 (wheat noodles in a clear broth).  The noodles were the more thicker Shanghainese or Taiwanese noodles so it is more chewier and had a nice bite and goes with the soup really well. The broth was very mild and delicate and was being offset with the more salty preserved vegetables and slivers of pork; it was a good balance. There there some bokchoy and slightly steamed mung bean sprout underneath all the preserved vegetables.

I ordered the Soy bean paste noodle with pork (also known as
zhajiangmian) $7 (wheat noodles with ground pork and soybean sauce). It seemed interesting and I've never tried this before. The noodle also comes with sliced cucumber and slightly blanched mung bean sprouts and a tea-smoked egg.

After mixing up everything, it looks the the picture above. Taste-wise, I thought it was slightly too salty for me, the sauce that is.I brought the rest home for my dad and he loves it.

Overall I think it's a good deal. I will have to try to make both of the noodles at home, if it turn out good then I will post the recipe on here. Next time I would like to try their ramen and get their Lunch special take out, they give you a lot and on the weekends they often have braised pork belly.

  • After much consideration, I have decided that my future posts will be in Protected mode, though I think I will try to keep the restaurants and food posts public. This way, I won't have to restrict as much. I have received some friends request but unfortunately the links for most of them doesn't work, I apologize that I wasn't able to view the invites. Hence I think it will be easier to add user names to the list of people who can view the protected posts. If you want to be added, send me a message.

    Today's quote is:

"I have the deepest affection for intellectual conversations. The ability to just sit and talk. About love, about life, about anything, about everything. To sit under the moon with all the time in the world, the full-speed train that is our lives slowing to a crawl. Bound by no obligations, barred by no human limitations. To speak without regret or fear of consequence. To talk for hours and about what’s really important in life."

  • I don't know if I should smirk or roll my eyes...

Some people are funny. There are a few that seems to go on my page constantly like there's nothing better to do or as if they are seeking something in these pages/posts of mine that I clearly must have missed. I see tiny footprints everywhere. And when some of these certain individuals decided to comment, they don't necessary say anything particularly nice or intelligent anyways. I had one person left a comment where it doesn't wholly pertain to a post where I was venting about something. Venting is venting, it is what it is. You are not in my shoes, nor have you witness anything, and keep in mind that there's always two sides to every story. Don't make assumptions, because then you'd look like an ass. Comments that are not very nice or well thought out should be kept to oneself, especially smart-ass comments minus the "smart" part. Don't get me wrong, I love witty comebacks, I just don't care for the ass comments that makes you appear dumb or less intelligent to me. Unless there's obvious questions or concerns pertaining to what I wrote, if you feel that strongly about it,  then those questions and comments should be sent directly to me via message system. Or maybe you think perhaps I'm being too sensitive? I find it somewhat annoying when people make their own interpretations and then insert their comments/opinions on my posts when they are....idk...off the beaten path, and if that's considered as being 'too sensitive' then I guess that's what it is. To each their own, perception is in the eye of the beholder, you may perceive things differently than I and you are entitled to your opinions. Doesn't mean I have to agree and the same applies to me. I guess the simplest thing for me to do is if I don't like a comment, I can delete it and no harm done. So simple, like the picture of the Meyers lemons, when life gives you a lemon....you *insert quote here*.

  • Le persone sono come la musica; alcune sono pura poesia, altre sono solo rumore.

Had been really busy for a long time. Slowing down a bit now. Had time today to even do some shopping and some pampering. Overdue on numerous posts, mostly food related, but will catch up now that time is aplenty.

  • Finally, spring is here, we've had such a long winter this year that I thought spring would never get here. And finally, I get some much needed rest. The best thing right now is not having to get up early, staying up late at night, and snuggled up in bed with a book.

"There are two types of people in this world, good and bad. The good sleep better, but the bad seem to enjoy the waking hours much more." -Woody Allen
